Taste of Spring

Our story this time is about the festive season of the East culture, the Lunar New-year. The time of love, joy and reunion with loved ones. The animation will take you on a young man’s journey back home to be with his family. Throughout video, we follow things that represent the spirits of spring. From the petal of a cherry blossom, the symbol of peace, to the flight of the swallows, the symbol reunion. And it would not be Lunar New-year without the red packets and firecrackers, the long lived traditions of the East cultures that puts smiles on every face. When the petal finally reattach to the cherry blossom flower, it is also the time that our character reunites with his family, to become one again.

The Lunar New-year had always been a wonderful time. But to those who spend time away from their family looking for better opportunities, reunion is a blessing they will always cherish.

Story Board

Part of life is to find new challenges, improve our self and seek new opportunities. All to create a better future for us and our next generations. Seeking new challenges and opportunities come with a trade for some people. We might have to distant with our loving family, maybe temporarily, maybe for a long time. In the modern world, people are so drawn into making a better life and forgetting that their family is always waiting. Our mission in this animation was to deliver a message. New-year is the time of joy, peace and reunion, nothing can be more worthy than to “come back home” after a year of hard work.

Animatic

Style frames

Focusing on the East culture, we want our audience to be able to resemble the Asian art style visual. The animation started out in a bright tone as we share joy with our character on his way back home. Touches of bright colors in details to emphasize happiness and warmth. We move on to a darker background with contrast of hot colors to shift focus onto cultural traditions such as Red Packets and Fire Crackers, stating that it is the Lunar New year. Our ending scene has even greater contrast between the dark sky, fire works and the home of the character. Our intention for the great contrast is to represent the transition of a new-year.
