Lewis

This was a 5 week long design brief set by John Lewis to design and make a tv stand for their “Beautiful On or Off ” campaign. The tv stand was to encompass their brand values whilst creating a unique design that would turn the tv into something that was as beautiful when it was off as when it is on.

Part of the brief stated that the design must accommodate a Sonos Playbar (but still look beautiful without the Playbar), have a cable management system and have space for other peripheries such as sky boxes and game consoles.

Lewis is designed to maximise your viewing experience by focusing your senses on the only two things that matter, the audio and visual. The design places the tv lower to the ground with a 15 degree angle upwards to create a more comfortable line of sight whilst creating an optical illusion, making the tv feel larger than it actually is.The design also tilts the soundbar up towards your head to improve the acoustical “sweet spot”. Peripherals are hidden behind the tv so as not to distract from the viewing experience. They will be fitted to an infrared relay system which is powered through the usb ports in the tv so that the remote signals will reach them.

If the viewer doesn’t own a soundbar, or doesn’t wish to use it then the tv can be lowered to line up with the oak shelf where a soundbar would normally sit.
