Craigslist Website Redesign

Craigslist Redesign

Taking a closer look at the current Craigslist website and using user centered design to recreate this website layout into a more modernized and user friendly site. This new design still keeps ties to the company's most recognizable features such as the font choices and the iconic purple color drawn from Craigslist's peace sign logo.

Defining Task Sets

To create a general layout of what all components of the website would look like, I focused on two different task sets and created pages and actions that accompanied this:
Task Set A – Find an apartment near University of Cincinnati  in Cincinnati, Ohio
Task Set B – Make a post seeking a graphic design job
Task Set A Prototype
"Find an apartment near University of Cincinnati  in Cincinnati, Ohio"

Task Set B Prototype
"Make a post seeking a graphic design job"

Process

First User Tests

Users were asked to complete both task sets A and B on the website and any issues, questions, or concerns that the users had were recorded. The user tests showed that navigating through the lists of each category on the home page of Craigslist was time consuming and most users got bored very quickly and switched to using the search bar instead. Several other pages throughout the website had a layout that was overwhelming, with text that was either too small to read or located in spaces that made it hard to notice.

Task flow diagrams and sketches with notes that summarized the main issues were then created to compile information and get an idea of what the new design needed to be.
