Photography Marketing Systems

I am often asked if there is one strategy that photographers can implement to experience growth to their business. The short answer is no.

In fact, it is that once and done type of mentality that got many of them in this rut of non-growth in the first place. You know what I’m talking about. Let’s give that ad a try or let’s try that guy who called last week with that ad.

If you’re a photographer looking to grow your business, put those days behind you, permanently.

Instead, take the time to understand marketing systems that work for photographers and implement a minimum of three. I often talk about the power of 3, which is a study performed over the several years.

Here is the low down on the power of 3
.
When you implement 1 marketing system (proven in your industry and implemented correctly) you will experience an average increase of income of 13% -17% with a 34% possibility of failure. All things considered these are not bad numbers but, they get better.

Implementing 2 proven marketing systems (for your industry and implemented correctly) showed on average of 19%-26% increase in income with a 23% possibility of failure. I like the direction of the numbers here but I am one that prefers to minimize the possibility of failure so take this one step further.

Implementing 3 of the proven marketing systems (for your industry and implemented correctly) showed on average of 30% + increase in income over the next 12 to 18 months. New businesses realized higher numbers. What we have yet to find, is failure with these numbers.

We did have a business who had to increase their geographic area because they were targeting a very depressed area. Aside from that, your failure rate is next to zero, barring a serious economic turn.

This is it. This is the missing ingredient. This is what separates photography businesses that are thriving, from those who are scratching their head.

Yes, you need to choose the right marketing systems and implement them correctly. And yes, marketing companies want to charge you a minimum of $4,000 to get your website ranking and implement just one solid marketing system. That, of course, is for six months.

So, let’s give you some answers and a path to this proven formula. Here are several marketing systems that are proven for the photography industry. Keep in mind, because they are geared towards photography, they need to be set up a certain way.

One more thing before I touch on some systems, you as a photographer have the strongest industry online to showcase your work. People online are very visual. When your work is presented correctly and in a professional manner, your images will produce 4 and 5 times the amount of conversions.

Social Media Marketing – One hour per week will produce new customers. When done correctly this actually has two positive effects. The links will increase your search engine rankings, and the exposure in social media will net new customers.

Pinterest – This is such a strong platform for photographers. You need to set this up correctly though to maximize conversions. If you are a photographer that handles different niches, set up a board for each niche. Breaking down your boards even more will help you to target your direct niche.  Online Photo Albums – A great tool that offers the largest increase in both conversions of new clients, as well as your average sale. Simply put, you have the ability to showcase your work in such a professional manner as well as offering customization for your customers.

Strategic Alliances – This is one of those marketing systems that when implemented correctly can offer a lifetime of income. I just spoke with one of our members, Violet Karyn of Violet Karyn Photography. She told me that she just implemented this type of strategy and formed an alliance that is going to give her new customers on a regular basis as well as tremendous exposure in the print advertising of the alliance.
