Second year project - ANALOG DESIGN
The project theme was to design a dwelling for a family of 4 that wishes to live in a natural environment.
Without use of fences and without disrupting the natural surroundings we had to think a living complex that consist of a house for 4 with a guest room, a piano pavilion (the spouse is a piano teacher and the husband, a ranger) and a family parking space, in a preseted area natural area near the city of Timisoara, Romania, located in the historical Banat area.
I opted for a hidden architecture that partially hides itself inside a small hill, on the bank of a small lake, with a natural finished wooden landmark as the connection between the house and the piano pavilion that sits on the lake. This acces is more important than the actual house acces from the parking space for reasons of connecting the house and its inhabitants with nature, with the sounds of the piano and the lake, as an instrument of tune for one's thinking, a passage from the inside to the outside, taking in step by step the passage to nature and, at the same time, for functional purposes, for storing the wooden materials needed for heating. The vertical blades are meant to mimic the tall grass at day and the light behind trees, at night, and the rusty steel finish is meant to create a certain camouflage, using the same colors of the typical flat-lands of the Banat area, Romania, where the site was given. I chose this setting, on the bank of the lake, for the reasons of the sounds of the lake mixed with the sounds of the the piano and the tranquility of such a surrounding.
The day spaces are actually on the first floor of the house, because of the type of connection I wanted for the house to have with it's surroundings and for privacy reasons. The night spaces and the private outside spaces/ terraces are hidden from view, giving the family it's privacy. At the same time it's inhabitants can bypass the day area, giving the opportunity to go straight to their private space if they wished so. The children area is tough as a annex of the house, close to the parents at the same time, giving them a possibility of a certain independence.
