Background:
A good friend of mine, Yoav Merhav, (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/yoav-merhav/1/8b4/779) asked me to make a mechanical mount to connect his Samsung-S3 mobile phone to his good-old telescope - Sounds like a cool weekend project :-)
Took us about 5-hours to design and 4-hours to 3D-print.
Here are the results
Solid Design:
I am using PTC-Creo-Elements\Direct PE3
Pictures from the 1st and 2nd observation:
Telescope type:
Meade 6" F8 Newtonian, f = 25mm + Tracking system
Observation sites:
Location-1: Palmahim - Israel
Location-2: Cohav-Yair (32.221832°, 34.984418°) - Israel
Using a refraction grid to cupture the light spectrum of a star:
Spectrum was obtained using a Mosquito net ~1mm pitch and ~20% fill factor (exact pitch can be found from the image, Theta = Lamda / d)
Grid seperation ~1mm
Grid seperation ~1mm
Grid thick ~0.2mm
