Iconic Finnish Design Pieces (Cinema 4D)

In this project I recreated and animated my favourite Finnish design pieces in Cinema 4D: Alvar Aalto's Stool for Artek, his vase for Iitala and Mariia Isola's Unikko print for Marimekko.
The design of these objects is timeless, they are as contemporary and popular nowadays as they were decades ago, when they were created.
For me, the organic forms of these designs are similar to Finnish nature: lakes and rocks, waves and woods. They are beautiful in their simplicity and clarity.

Stool 60
Designer: Alvar Aalto (Artek)
Year: 1933

Three legs, round seat, nine cogs. Stools can be stacked in the spiralling tower to save space.
Designed for the city library in Vyborg, created by the project of Aalto himself.
Made of solid birch in a wide variety of colours and finishes.

Aalto Vase (the Savoy Vase)
Designer: Alvar Aalto (Iitala)
Year: 1936

The legend says, that the shape of this vase was inspired not only by the bends of coastline, but also by the trousers of a Sami woman.
The vase is still made manually from blown glass. The creation of one object requires seven masters and 30 hours of work. Thanks to this approach, each vase turns out to be unique, a bit different from others.
I decided to fill vase with typical finnish objects: lamps with building numbers, which are always located above enrance in the house. Looks cool and also practical: house numbers are visible in the dark.

Unikko (poppy) cotton fabric
Designer: Maija Isola (Marimekko)
Year: 1964

This pattern was created after a ban on flowers in Marimekko prints have been proclaimed.
Unikko pattern has been in continious production since its creation and appeared on all kind of products.
It became so well-known that it has become Marimekko's unofficial logo.

Thanks for watching!
