Wearable Technology

This is a group project that I was a part of during a design Program in China. It was a Parsons and Tsinghua University collaboration which took place in Beijing, focusing on the merging of fashion and technology. This piece is a result of a fast paced 5 day workshop.

This garment was my group's response to the lack of personal space you experience in an overpopulated city such as Beijing. The idea behind this hood-like garb was to let those in your physical space know when you are open to social interaction and when you are not. To do this we employed a combination of tilt-motion sensors and LEDs, weaving them into the spine of the garment. In a situation where the wearer wants to protect themselves or gain privacy they would pull up their hood. The tilt sensor would then pick up this movement which would trigger the LEDs to light up.
