‘Unbelong’ is a student collaboration with Carmen Zeng, Karla Hayes, Crystal Yiamkiati, Cathy Nguyen and Janey Li exploring and celebrating the experiences of young Asian-Australians. ‘Unbelong’ was created in response to the 2019 D&AD New Blood Monotype brief and was awarded a D&AD New Blood Yellow Pencil in 2019. 

‘Australia claims to be multicultural. As Asian-Australians, we call this our home, yet we still don’t truly belong. We don’t fit into the Australian stereotype, and we can’t always meet the expectations of our Asian migrant parents. So, we’re moving out. We are unapologetic and unashamed, we are the Unbelong. Welcome to our new home; a digital safe space to turn cultural shame into pride, and our burden into power.’
