2019 MCP: Ordinary-Oddinary
The discovery of Oddity is the discovery of possibility. <Ordinary-Oddinary> is an exhibition about oddities and potentials, that are barely noticed just like the gap between the two words. Our ‘normals’ are easily set, but hardly fixed. We’re used to judge things in a way of ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, rather than ‘could be’ and ‘maybe’. As these standards are so deeply rooted, we often see and think blindedly. But so far, world has been changed by those who struggled to see ‘odds’. This points out that the next giant step may start from the give aways of our ‘one and only’ point of views. 8 teams of Samsung Design Membership tried to re-evaluate the values of odd, and further propose how the future design must embrace varieties. And now, the exhibition is looking forward to spread out these ideas to the world of ordinaries and beyond. Hopefully, your thoughts, words, and moves behind the wall could be our fuels. 이상함의 발견은 곧 가능성의 발견이다. <Ordinary-Oddinary>는 언뜻 같게 들리는 두 단어처럼, 쉽게 눈치챌 수 없는 일상 속의 이상함과 그 가능성에 대한 전시입니다. 우리는 '정상'이라는 기준에 익숙한 나머지 일상 속에 존재하는 또 다른 관점들을 눈치채지 못하곤 합니다. 너무나도 쉽게 나만의 관점으로 '정상'과 '비정상'을 나누고, '다른' 것을 '틀린' 것으로 여기며 살아가고 있습니다. 하지만 지금까지 이 세상은 일상 속에 존재하는 수많은 '이상함'을 감지하고, 그 속에서 가능성을 찾아낸 사람들에 의해 발전해 왔습니다. 삼성디자인멤버십 8팀의 작품은 이렇듯 정상이라는 기준의 바깥에 이상하다고 여겨지던 것들의 가치와 가능성을 조명하고, 이를 통해 다른 가치를 포용하는 미래 디자인을 제시합니다. 이 전시가 전시장을 넘어 이상함에 대한 지속적인 고민이 되기를, 끊임없이 그것을 찾아내고 포용하려는 미래적 움직임이 되기를 바랍니다.
