Flame Light
Fire has been around humankind for millions of years. Electricity and photography are quite recent innovations. Throughout history flame was the only source of light in the darkness. It has led to the creation of works of Caravaggio and his followers.
Both a source of heat and security, and a peril, fire and the ability to tame it is seen as a cornerstone of human evolution. Alas, flames that could save human lives, soon started to destroy the life around.  Recent events in Amazon forests and Australia are the effects of the greedy way of life of the people of today. Modern humans are more likely to be attracted by the fire than to see it as a grave danger, but even with innovative technologies firefighters struggle to extinguish the blaze.
These photos are to capture the opposing forces of destructive fire and prolific plants. Flame is the only source of light used. The flowers used for the photographs were all picked in the Muranów neighbourhood in Warsaw, a Jewish district that has been burned to the ground by the Nazis after the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising (1943).
