Частиною навчання цієї осені стала співпраця з інтернет-виданням TheBabel.com.ua. Ми створили ілюстрації до проекту, присвяченому 30-річчю падіння Берлінського муру. Деталізоване дослідження історичних фактів, спогадів очевидців та мозковий штурм дозволили графічно зобразити, чому падіння муру було неминучим та які умови, ще більше прискорили хід історії.
Давайте зануримось у метафоричний світ кожного з ілюстраторів, що працювали над цим проектом, і детально розглянемо результат та процес!
This fall we were lucky enough to work with the online media TheBabel.com.ua as part of our studying process. We created editorial illustrations for the project about the 30th anniversary of the Berlin Wall fall. In the result of research and brainstorming, we were able to graphically depict the story of why the fall of the wall was inevitable and what conditions accelerated this process even more.
Let's dive into the point of view of each illustrator who've worked on this project and review their result and process in details!
1. OKSANA KURMAZ: Отримавши бриф, спочатку я була дуже щасливою, а потім почала стресувати. Адже я ніколи не працювала з соціальною чи політичною тематикою. Щоб обрати власне власне бачення, я доклала максимум зусиль на етапі інформаційного дослідження. А також вдало використала креативні техніки генерування ідей, що нам дали в Projector. У результаті, я мала навіть більше ідей, ніж було потрібно.
When I just got this brief, I was super happy but then I got scared. Because I`ve never worked with social or political themes. So I did my best at the stage of research and used all the creative technics that I`ve discovered during studying in Projector to come up with my own vision. As a result, I`ve generated even more ideas than was needed.
2. BOGDANA ROBOCHEK: Берлінський мур був явищем дуже фізичним, «дуже реальним». Це — помпезна споруда, з метою розподіляти та знищувати. Я використала метафору рук, щоб підкреслити людську природу муру. А жук — це кафкіанські мотиви, знову ж таки, про не найкращу сторону сутності людини.
Berlin wall is very physical, 'very real'. It was huge contraction with an aim to divide and destroy. That`s why I used metaphor of hands - human nature did that. And the bag is Kafkaian motives, again about not the best part of human society.
3. DARYNA SKULSKA: Мене надихав Берлін минулого та сучасний. Мур й досі є величезною частиною історії міста, ніхто не намагається забути чи втекти від минулого. Тож у своїх ілюстраціях я дуже багато використовую ці почуття, що мур є невідємною частиною життя людей.
In my illustrations I've been inspired by Berlin of past and nowadays. I had mixed feelings, when I was in Berlin. The wall is still a huge part of the city history, and nobody is trying to forget or to escape from the past. So, in my illustrations, I use these feeings a lot as inseparable part of people's life.
4. NATALIA KOZEKO: В цьому проекті свої ілюстрації, в основному, я будувала на симлволах та порівняннях. Наприклад, два ведмеді, як символ Берліну, що боряться за територію — вільний в своїх поглядах і баченнях ФРГ, та скутий режимом і ідеологією ГДР.
In this project, I mainly based my illustrations on metaphors, symbols and comparisons. For example, two bears, as a symbol of Berlin fighting for territory - West Germany, free in their views and visions, and GDR, embraced by the regime and ideology.
1.MIND MAP: Один із найважчих, але найважливіших етапів — це почати й зрозуміти глибинну сутність проекту, який його меседж.
One of the hardest but the most important step - is to begin and to dig deeply into the main message of a project.
2.ROUGH SKETCHES AND ITS COLORED VERSIONS: Ось кілька ескізів, які клієнт не обрав для останнього етапу.

FINAL FEEDBACK FROM DARYA SVETLOVA, ART DIRECTOR OF THEBABEL: Дуже дякуємо за співпрацю, все вийшло дуже круто! Незважаючи на те, що в публікації використовуються ілюстрації тільки однієї людину, в кожній серії кожного ілюстратора є чудові рішення, які, як нам здається, відмінно розкривають історію. Багато ідей виявилися дійсно свіжими і несподіваними, а це саме те, що ми хотіли б використовувати на нашому ресурсі для оформлення матеріалу. Одним словом - ВАУ!
Thank you very much for this cooperation, everything turned out very cool! Despite the fact we can use illustrations of only one person in the publication, there are lots of great solutions in each series of each illustrator. Each illustration, as we think, perfectly reveal the story. Many ideas look really fresh and unexpected, which is exactly what we would like to share with our readers of TheBabel alongside with our articles. In a word - WOW!
