SciFest Los Angeles

SciFest Los Angeles

Inspired by the science fiction movie “Interstellar,” the discovering scene of the four dimensions, I developed a dimensional typeface as the main visual language that could be used as a framing device throughout different applications for the whole festival identity system.

SciFest LA is a hypothetical 8-day film festival devoted to showcasing science fiction movies. By curating classic science fiction movies from 1970 to 2017, the audience can enjoy all different types and sub-genres of science fiction movies such as action, animation, and mystery through the festival.

The Installation prototype is an idea of bringing two-dimension typeface into a tangible form. In the physical space, the installation demonstrates the dimensionality of the letterform by using two projectors and MadMapper software to mapping the video into different angles in this wood structure. The footage includes the clips from the sci-fi movies that curate in the festival and the text running through the installation is the key science factor in the film. The viewer can experience various forms by changing their perspective around the structure.
The event below is designed for Kip Thorne, who is an American theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate to have a conversation with Interstellar film director Christopher Nolan.

In the event, both of them will explain how the black hole works in reality and film. The visual design for this event is using key science features in the movie: Dimensions, Time Dilation, and Black Hole. By using Cinema 4D to render an Augmented Reality poster, the viewer can have more immersive experiences with science.
