Wear and Care (Thesis Project)

Wear and Care Thesis Project

The problem I decided to address using design is sustainability in the fashion industry.
The textile industry is the second largest polluter in the world and is rife with human rights violations. Wear and Care is a kit designed to equip people with the knowledge and tools to make smarter clothing purchases and to better maintain the clothing they already have for a more sustainable wardrobe.

The kit consists of a book and a basic sewing kit. The book consists of 4 parts: information on the textile industry and its impact on people and the planet; a guide to clothes shopping based on ethics, clothing quality, and personal style; instructions on how to properly launder your clothes so that they last longer; and beginner-level tutorials on how to make basic repairs to clothing using the supplied sewing kit.

While just about anyone could make use of this kit, the audience I targeted are young adults who care about the ill effects of the fashion industry and want to make a positive impact. I chose this demographic for this project because younger people are still figuring out their personal style and developing their own independent buying habits.
