Schneeessen

Schneeessen (Eating Snow) is a project in the field of printing techniques, with the goal of illustrating a poem by Herta Müller and to bind a book of the illustrations, without using paper. All illustrations were created with the monotpying printmaking technique, which creates unique prints.
Since there was no paper used in the process, the illustrations were printed onto fabric. To give stability to the book, the different layers of fabric were sewn together and framed with metal wire.
To convey the overall feeling of the poem, different kinds of fabric were used to create texture and layers of depth. Black and white thread hold the pages together and within their metal wire frame. The rough and unfinished look with loose threads hanging from the pages point to the raw and unconventional use of words and sentences of the poem.
