Created after the fire at Água de Meninos Market in 1964, the São Joaquim Market is one of the mainly places for the residents of the city of Salvador (Bahia- Brazil) and the surroundings buy supllies at low cost.

It can be found a varity of items in the main "street", such as vegetables, herbs, items for the religions related to the african matrix of Brazil (Candomblé and Umbanda). In the side streets we can found a place dedicated to the "meat market" with animals freshly slaughtered. These animals can also be found in another place of the São Joaquim Market, but alive. The species are varied, such as chicken, goat, rabbit and even peacock. Near to this place, the fishermen unloads their boats with fresh fish, crabs, shrimp and oyster, avaliable to all the consumers to buy in first hand.
