The Future of Food

GRPH 221 - Fall 2019
The institute on the Environment is a program sponsored by the University of Minnesota, a group built on expanding awareness on key environmental issues. I was tasked with designing an editorial to accompany their essay “Is There Enough Food for the Future” to be combined with a number of other editorials on the future of foods in a collective anthology. Each set of spreads is meant to include info-graphics to garner a more technical review of the essays and the issues or topics that they explore. This is all done to bring enlightenment and knowledge to viewers in a design oriented exhibition.
The spreads must cover 4 to 6 total pages with an aforementioned info graphic included. Other illustrations can be used to bring equity to the layout. Finally, A cover design is to be presented along with the work to be the face of the anthology. All files of which are to be submitted as PDF’s of each piece as well as a 3 dimensional mock up of the cover. Success is to be measure in the ability to draw the attention of readers and consumers to not only the design but to the essays themselves. The target audience of which is projected to be individuals involved in higher learning.
There is no other companies or organizations directly in competition with our purpose, so it is to say the issues that are discussed through the collection of essays is what we are competing against. The ever encroaching issues of overpopulation, deforestation, and climate change. These design implements are to be delivered after a month of design work and deliberation on December 10th. This includes multiple iterations of each deliverable. The overall budget of this piece is $5,000, which is to include labor, printing, and distribution fees.
