When choosing a word to form her portrait around the artist wanted a subject that evokes passion. Elysian is a word used in classical mythology. The Elysian fields were the paradise reserved for the heroes immortalized by gods. The artist’s name, Daphne, also originates from Greek mythology as a nymph cherished by Apollo. The nymph’s tragic love story came to be the perfect dichotomy to elysian for the artist to portray in her portrait.
