TEDxIITRoorkee

TEDx is a grassroots initiative, created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading.” TEDx events are organized by passionate individuals who seek to uncover new ideas and the latest research in their local areas and spark conversations in their communities. TEDx events include live speakers sharing their knowledge on varying topics like technology, education, design, careers etc. TEDxIITRoorkee is one such event, organised by a group of individuals within Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee. TEDxIITRoorkee 2019 is the third edition of this event.


Theme: "Beyond the Barriers"

Since the beginning of time, humans have been surrounded by constraints and challenged with the task to overcome them. A huge part of our evolution revolves around these constraints. Although culture and tradition have provided us with a basis for living standards, they have held us back in many ways. Going against the tradition is not to be viewed as a step in the wrong direction, but rather as an attempt at a new, unexplored adventure. This year, TEDxIITRoorkee, with it's theme, "Beyond the Barriers",  was focused on encouraging people to go against the flow and try out new ventures, and also guiding them along their journey.





My Role

I was a part of the Design team of TEDxIITRoorkee 2019. The whole team worked towards creating consistency and improving brand recognition, and at the same time provided all the necessary deliverables as and when required. The deliverables included, but were not limited to, banners, flyers, social media posters, ID cards, etc.


The Logo

This year's theme "Beyond the Barriers" highlights the cruciality of going beyond what one thinks is possible, and as a result, reaching new heights. The Barriers could be anything ranging from societal norms & traditions to one's beliefs about oneself. The logo we have made, tries to embody the representations of thoughts, emotions & beliefs escapes beyond the confines.
The system of Golden Ratio has been used in the construction of this logo, so that the logo appears balanced and is pleasing to the eye when placed on a variety of deliverables.





Deliverables

A variety of deliverables were required in the entire process of organising and promoting the event. These include deliverables for the print campaign as well as the social media campaign. Consistency had to maintained across all the deliverables. Therefore a colour palette as well as some graphical elements were decided beforehand, that could be used in the design seamlessly.
