New Delhi Metro Map | Display Design
This project is still a work in progress. We are three product designers, Akansha Aggarwal, Amina Panghal and Hemant Andania; and we basically wanted to implement a better, functional and effective interaction structure that works universally in the Delhi Metro maps present inside the Metro for the passengers to see.
We were not happy with the current redesign of the Delhi Metro Maps which took place in the newer lines. It lacked all the positives that the analog system had, like consistency among the maps, position of the current station and there were even times where all a person would see is a yellow warning that says ‘Stand back from the Doors’ for 10 seconds straight without displaying any other information.
Even the old display that uses printed maps has some problems though it’s almost close to perfect, but we felt going back to the old display is not the solution. The old display can’t tell how much time will it take to reach a particular station, it’s way too cluttered in long lines and we believe if we have new age data, we should be making use of that.
Solutions (In-Progress)
We aim to implement some new features to the same digital display which has turned so ugly for passengers. These features include:

• People would know Near-By places of the Stations they’re about to get down on.

• Estimated Time arrival of each station from the current station.
• Same Color Coding and Design Consistency throughout the Metro
• People will know which side the door will open.
• Destination and Line Changing Station will be better Color coded.
