Scottish Environment Protection Agency Redesign

Brief: 'SEPA'
Founded in 1996, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) protects the environment and human health. It does this by regulating activities that can cause pollution and by monitoring the quality of Scotland’s air, land and water.

Task:
Investigate the SEPA brand, its place in public service and its competitors and related organisations.
How can the brand connect with a generation more aware than ever of global climate change, public health, recycling and green energy? Make the audience believe in the work the agency does, and allow them to interact in a meaningful way with the services it provides for our communities. Create a visual identity that reflects a positive and forward-thinking approach to the many issues we all face in our living environments.
SEPA is forward - thinking, connected, responsible & green.
The rebranded logo combines natural elements of land, water and air to form a modern, elegant symbol. It creates a friendly and accessible visual personality.
The website is designed to be simple and easy to navigate. It features striking photographic elements and focuses on social media communication.
Trending articles could be highlighted and placed on the main page to attract more attention.
SEPA could reach a wider audience through podcasts and informative blog articles. Podcasts are booming in the UK, with nearly 6 million adults now tuning in each week. According to Radio Joint Audience Research (RAJAR), the number of weekly podcast listeners has almost doubled in five years – from 3.2m (7% of adults aged 15+) in 2013 to 5.9m (11%) in 2018.
