ANDALUSIA, LAND OF LIGHT

ANDALUSIA, LAND OF LIGHT

-impressions of light on Andalusian vernacular architecture-

This southern region in Spain has a strong cultural background which remains until today. Andalusia or Andalucía (Spanish) was the entrance door for the Islamic and Arab world in the Iberian peninsula in the year 711 A.D., and home to the most important caliphates in the Islamic culture, for over 700 years.

This Arabic influence played a meaningful influence in the development of the Spanish culture, and can be seen today in vernacular architecture, language, tools, traditions, among other aspects.

Its southern latitude gives this land a warm climate throughout the year as well as long hours of bright sunlight. Here, white is even whiter and light is an endless resource.
