THE PRIMAL FIRE
The primal element of humankind is fire. We are capable of lighting fire for 350 000 years and still can not define it. We can feel its heat, enjoy its light and through all these thousands of years it is still in our daily life. It feels like humankind's private sun. On the other hand we always have to keep attention to control it.
It represents us. A gift from Prometheus. It's not just his sacrifice because to light it we need to sacrifice something. And to keep it alive we have to define what to waste.
In this series I teached the boy how to light a match. Safety match. Controled fire. The tiny flame on a tiny stick. Safe danger. He controlled in control. He was analysing the short life of the flame with primal fascination. He was excited and curious. Than the fire was geting close to his fingertips and because of the heat he had to blow it away.
This was not a smart phone or toy. It was something very ancient and still it could make him numb from intrest. It was like he reached an age where he was aloud to do something what is considered to be an adult act. I gave him trust. With the possibility that he can light fire I said that ,,I trust you''. This was our ritual.
