L'AEM (Azienda Elettrica Municipale) di Roma per l'illuminazione pubblica e privata, divenuta Acea nel 1945, nacque nel 1909. Tre anni dopo, nel 1912, fu inaugurata la “Centrale Montemartini”, primo impianto termoelettrico statale attraverso cui l’Azienda iniziò a vendere elettricità a Roma.

Nel 1937 il governatore di Roma affidò all’azienda anche la costruzione e l'esercizio degli acquedotti e delle reti idriche di distribuzione per la città è per questo che da AEM divenne AGEA (Azienda Governatoriale Elettricità e Acque), poi Acea nel 1945.

Sempre nel 1945, alla fine della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, la Centrale Montemartini sfuggita ai bombardamenti, era l'unica su cui Roma poteva contare.

Nel 1964 l'Acea ottenne il controllo di tutta la rete idrica romana, essendo scaduta la concessione all'Acqua Pia Antica Marcia per la gestione dell'Acquedotto Marcio.

Nel 1985 completò la gestione del ciclo idrico con l'assunzione del servizio di depurazione. Quattro anni dopo cambiò il proprio nome da Azienda Comunale dell’Elettricità ad Azienda Comunale dell’Energia e dell’Ambiente.

Nel 1992 l'Acea si trasformò in Azienda Speciale e, dal 1º gennaio 1998, in Società per Azioni (Acea S.p.A.), entrando alla Borsa di Milano il 16 luglio dell' anno successivo.

Acea si occupa anche d’illuminare i monumenti più belli del mondo, ancora oggi simbolo della gloria di Roma.

Condivido con voi quello che è stato realizzato in occasione dei 110 anni di energia a Roma, da cui è nata una mostra proprio al Museo di Montemartini "110 ANNI DI LUCE ACEA E ROMA PASSIONE E INNOVAZIONE" ottobre 2019 gennaio 2020 e libro a tiratura limitata che come la mostra percorre la storia dell'azienda attraverso documenti ma soprattutto fotografie.

The AEM (Municipal Electricity Company) of Rome for public and private lighting, which became Acea in 1945, was born in 1909. Three years later, in 1912, the "Centrale Montemartini" was inaugurated, the first state thermoelectric plant when the Company started selling electricity in Rome.

In 1937 the governor of Rome also entrusted the entire company with the construction and activity of the aqueducts and water distribution networks for the city, which is why from AEM it became AGEA (Governance Company for Electricity and Water), then Acea in 1945.Also in 1945, at the end of the Second World War, the Montemartini power plant which escaped the bombing, was in order on which Rome used to count.

In 1964 Acea gained control of the entire Roman water network, the concession to Acqua Pia Antica Marcia for the management of the Marcio Aqueduct having expired.

In 1985 he completed the management of the water cycle with the hiring of the purification service. Four years after the change of its name from Municipal Electricity Company to Municipal Energy and Environment Company.

In 1992 Acea became a Special Company and, from 1 January 1998, a Joint-Stock Company (Acea S.p.A.), entering the Milan Stock Exchange on 16 July of the following year.

Acea also takes care of illuminating the most beautiful monuments in the world, still today a symbol of the glory of Rome. I share with you what was made on the occasion of 110 years of energy in Rome, from which an exhibition was born right at the Montemartini Museum "110 YEARS OF ACEA LIGHT AND ROME PASSION AND INNOVATION" in October 2019 January 2020 and limited edition book that as the exhibition runs through the history of the company through documents and photographs.
