Book Cover Design & Typeset—Soviet Texts
Book/ Poetry/ Prose/ Russian Translation Literature
During my apprenticeship at Ugly Duckling Presse, I got to design and typeset this Russian literature by Dmitri Alexandrovich Prigov. Prigov was a Russian writer and artist during the era of the Soviet Union. With the aid and direction by the Production Manager, Matvei Yankelevich, I referenced by Prigov's artworks and the Pravda Newspaper from the 70s to reflect the contents of this book.
The fonts that are used in this book are Russo One, Helvetica Inserat, Helvetica CY, and Adobe Garamond.

Prigov was not only a prolific writer but also a great visual artist. He used to like to draw on newspapers with ink in minimal colors. Thus I suggested using his style to design the book cover.
Luckily, with the help of the Production Manager, Matvei Yankelevich, I got to access to the New York Public Library’s archive to search for the Russian newspapers during the Soviet Union era.
Used that as the background, the rest of the design is done in Photoshop and InDesign.
