‘Cellulace’ is a Textiles range inspired by scientfic ‘Brainbow’ images outlining the punkinje cells fractal and lace-like patterns. The range also incorporates sheer chiffon fabrics and materials that vary in opacity to emphasize the brains mysterious and complicated structure, as we still have so much more to discover about it. Through this colourisation technique scientists can not only begin to understand the communication patterns between cells but also can appreciate their inner beauty. These patterns are intricate and made up of millions of tiny fibers, which branch out from the cells like roots from a seed creating a fan-like array relating significantly to the structure of lace. The range seeks to create both a new contemporary view for the aesthetics of lace and an insight for viewers into the foreign world of the brain. This is explored through a series of brightly coloured, fine line, embroidery, paint and layering techniques.
