Whether you are a manufacturer or buyer, you are going to have to pay attention to sustainability. This topic is found more applicable in the field of packaging due to the basic reason that packaging wastes have been believed to ruin the earth’s environment pretty badly. In this scenario, sustainable packaging is thought to be able to contribute big time in controlling the packaging wastes. At least this is what the theories suggest.

In the last 12 months, the topic of sustainability is discussed in such a manner that suggests an urgency to quickly switch to the measures to implement this ‘greener’ packaging option. And if we look at the entire scenario, we can see this as a collaborative effort to build an opinion in favor of the sustainable packaging.

In such scenario, certain things have been over-simplified. For instance, there is a general concept built in the minds of people that all plastic is bad. But the matter of fact is that it is not entirely true.  On the other hand, there is a group of people who believe that it is unwise to make it a top agenda to associate packaging waste with environmental concerns.

Consumer packaged goods companies are creating the sustainability solutions. Retailers tend to use the preferred materials. Consumers are more aware to expect the product packaging to be composed of sustainable materials. And governments are looking into the legislative options to formulate the strategies to support recycling initiatives.

There is no doubt that these efforts are heading towards bringing much needed changes but there are many people who argue that even these combined efforts are not enough and, so, the overall approach needs to be more organized.

Instead of trying to prove that you work on sustainable packaging options, you actually need to be honest with the approach. The reason is that if you want to bring a meaningful change, you are going to have to put a genuine effort. That’s not to say that you should totally forget about your business revenue. Of course that is the very reason you are doing business. But when you are making claim that you work on sustainable packaging, you need to mean it.

When we talk about packaging waste, we usually declare all of the plastic bad. This is the wrong approach. One thing that needs to be kept into consideration here is that not all types of plastic are bad. Of course there are a few types which need to be removed. But there are certain plastics which can be the part of packaging that has minimal impact on environment.
