Microsoft Word
student’s book
The goal was to upcycle the use of Microsoft Word from the perspective of a graphic designer. The result is an author's student’s book, which presents graphic design possibilities of the Microsoft Word to the professional and general public in an understandable way. The book includes individual demonstrations of the process of designing print materials, typesetting or illustration. Summarizing this knowledge and creating simple guidelines/tutorials for the institution’s environment is a significant step towards improving the quality of public graphical output.
The book is written, designed, typeset & illustrated exclusively and only in the Word program (no other tools used). The project was created as a diploma thesis at the Department of Visual Communication.
In many cases, graphic designers consider Microsoft Word to be a damned application. It escapes their radar of attention. One obvious reason is its repellent user experience, which is deterrent not only for designers, but sometimes for global users as well. Paradoxically, it is the most widely used editor in corporate administration. This creates a lack of information about the possibilities of its use.
