Olivia Burton Vector Watch

Concept:  I wanted to design a watch on Adobe Illustrator to look life - like.  I also wanted the watch to be simple and yet create details that wouldn't be seen from the naked eye.  The idea of simplicity and elegance became a big part of the process.

Sketch:  I focused on the placement of highlights and shadows on a single watch if there was a light source shining down on the watch at a particular angle.  I also wanted a watch that used roman numerals so I played around with the idea of having a couple on the face of the watch.

Vector Draft : This is the example of the watch I chose to emulate.  I started with watching a video on Youtube to create the face and rings of the watch.  The rings helped to create a depth in the watch and the surface.  However, when receiving feedback I realized that there were too many rings on the vector that did not match the watch I was trying to depict.  I had great gradients but I struggled to give it the color it needed so I went back and changed some things around.

Final:  The first image on the left is the original watch, the second my vector graphic emulating the first image, and the last image is the frame work behind of the vector work.  This watch creates a life-like feel and the frame work shows how many details went into creating this watch which could not be seen without the skeleton.  The watch also captures all the details that I desired such as shadows and highlights, roman numerals, and a simply elegant design.
