Dots and Lines Knives

Dots and Lines, 2017
Red Dot Design Award Design Concept 2018, Winner

Dots and Lines is a member of product series that I designed with the interaction of lines. The set consists of a chef’s knife, a pastry knife, a fillet knife and a peeling knife and they are all made of steel from blade to handle. The steel handle is emptied for the center of mass from being on the handle. The radius cut on handle is seperating the blade from handle is the most important detail affecting the cutting style. Also this part is big influence on the design of the stand. It is ignores the standard stand shape approach and try to re-discover knife set understanding.
The radius cut on handle part is constitutes the basis of design. When users put their fingers on this part, they will able to do better controlled cut. Also thanks to the this cut, these knives won a simplistic form but still, they are in understandeble shape that similar to standart knives for everyday works.
The stand is formed by the radius cut on the knives which brings together degraded and simple geometries. Instead of different slots for each knife, a single slot with a degraded passing from opaque to transparency, makes it easier when selecting a knife. With the degraded paint application on the stand, knives are easily visible but stand is able to hide their sharpest sides and ends. Thus you can see the knives as shadows while selecting which one is you need.
