The Velvet Revolution or Gentle Revolution is one of the most important non-violent power transitions in the history of Czechoslovakia. People of all ages and social groups gathered in one movement against the Communist regime. The result of the revolution was a restoration of the parliamentary democracy, a breakup of Czechoslovakia, and the foundation of two independent states: the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The 30th anniversary of this event was celebrated in 2019.
Task: to develop a label design for a special edition of plum distillate produced for the 30th anniversary of the Czech Republic's independence.
A Czech alcohol producer, L'or Special Drinks, decided to produce a special edition of the traditional alcohol beverage - a plum distillate, dedicated to the anniversary. To emphasize the importance of politics in the country's history, the client requested to create an illustration-based label design, where all four presidents of the Republic would be depicted.
Solution:
for this product line, a narrow square bottle was chosen. A simple and logical solution was born immediately. Four presidents - four sides of the bottle. Like heroes of a Czech boy band, presidents became symbols of each period of the Republic. The unique quote in the gold Pantone execution underlines the importance of the event and creates a festive but elegant bottle look. The coating gradient on the glass prevents the illustrations from overlapping with each other and adds a slight frost effect which gives a stronger taste appeal for the product.
