I was more than happy to work on a business card and logo design for my mother, as she has started her own human resources and business operations consulting venture.
With some push back here and there we settled on a version that she finds simple and to the point, without being too superfluous.
The customer is always right!
I made the recommendation that a premium treatment always makes business cards "pop", the cost is easily justified after receiving the final product from moo.com.

My personal view is that adding a level of tactility and feel to an object, especially in print media, gives the medium more weight and impact. If this translates well into people remembering the person the card is representative of, then the job is well done.
