Nexus + Espai-E open sessions about Neighbourhoods and Artistic Practices
Idensitat, EINA, Fàbrica de Creació Fabra i Coats

In 2009 Fira Barcelona started to expand its facilities by taking up space from the closest neighbourhoods, those located at the industrial park Pedrosa, between L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona. 108 families were evicted from their homes in Gran Via and relocated to new residencies only 300 metres away. These new buildings were almost exact reproductions of their previous homes, as if the neighbourhood was copied and pasted in a new location.

The series of photographs tell the story of these cloned buildings from the perspective of a person walking along the streets. The objective frontal view of the houses hides the emotional story behind the walls, which becomes visible by pointing the camera at this unnoticed subject. This is a story about neighbourhood transformation, community and identity.
