According to a report by international observers, there is a plan to establish a new water connection between the city and the 17km-long Euphrates river which should be connected to a network of about 200 km, from the Euphrates to Aleppo,
which the Syrian government developed before the war,
leaving the link with the territory of Kobane unfinished.
This is the opportunity seized by the project: to re-establish the city through a new infrastructural system, involving its reconstruction in the same project.
The proposal is based on the construction of a territorial connection aqueduct. In fact, its layout wants to be a gesture that goes beyond the border of the region, the canton or the nation: it will be an element for the whole community or, better,
for all the various communities. We want to create an artifact capable of generating a collective meaning, which represents the infrastructure engine of the reconstruction proposal and which is also architecture.
The artifact that we propose is an aqueduct that will transport not only water but also any other infrastructure necessary for the development of the territory.
The aqueduct, for us, enters into a temporal concept that looks to the future and wants to counter this dark episode of contemporary history.
The founding architecture of the aqueduct in fact,
seeks to work with time as a raw material:
it is an element of this time but, also, out of time.
