This work came from a drawing I had done of a ball of thorns. I developed the form into a Hemisphere with the spikes on the inside. Unfortunately these first pieces melted in the kiln which led me to create new pieces, but because I didn't have access to a kiln I decided to use a firing method called 'pit firing'. Using my fathers incinerator I submerged the pieces in sawdust and built a fire over the top of them, once the fire has burnt down you cover it over allowing it to smoke, leaving black patterns on the ceramic. I displayed these pieces on the ashes from the incinerator to persevere how I found them after the firing.
