Akara Kusuma
Visual identity for Desain Komunikasi Visual Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (DKV UMN) annual event

Akara Kusuma is an event by Konten Prodi DKV UMN in 2019 to welcome new students to Universitas Multimedia Nusantara. Through a series of events, freshmen are given guidance to navigate their ways through college. The word Akara and Kusuma are taken from Sanskrit language, meaning form and flower respectively. Derived from its name, flower becomes the theme of this event. The visual identity takes cue from the spirit of DKV UMN as well as flowers.

The Challenge

The challenge was to design a logo for the event that is distinct enough yet in line with the symbols for each division. "Inspiration" is chosen to represent the spirit of DKV UMN while lotus became the flower of choice; as it commonly symbolizes rebirth, just like "siswa" are made to be "mahasiswa" through Akara Kusuma. The result is an eight sided lotus. The eight sides resemble a burst and a spark, just like what happens when we get inspired, burst of energy and that "aha/light bulb" moment which is like a spark to our brain.

The logo is typeset in Montserrat Bold to give it energy and immediacy. The logo is applied in various collateral as shown below. Brushstrokes inquire the various color palettes and fills up the canvas.
