I chose to paint a close up of lavender because I love the smell of it and the color. My grandpa always grew lavender in his garden to attract bees to his other flowers. I really like the way purple, orange, and red look together so I did red and orange in the background similar to a sunset. In this piece I used emphasis with the colored pencil on the watercolor on the lavender buds. I also used a lot of colors in this piece. I looked at J. M. W. Turner's watercolor piece, The Lake of Lucerne, as reference for the colors and the way he blends the orange sky. If I could change anything about this piece, I would redo the background because it isn’t blended as well as I wanted it to be. I think the color of the lavender is really nice and the detail I did with a colored pencil turned out how I wanted it.
