Buddy is a 3D printed task light, designed and produced in collaboration with Gantri, a forward thinking platform, allowing access to creatives to launch fully-functioning 3D printed products, based in San Francisco.
The design stems from a brief to create a functional light that helps the dynamic worker to focus on specific tasks - such that the design has a moving head. This adds to Gantri's current portfolio which upon introduction focused heavily on 'static' designs. Due to the nature of 3D printed objects, moving parts can wear out sooner, so a variety of innovative methods and mechanisms were considered to counteract this.
The light is seen to 'help' the user, just as a 'buddy' would, hence the styling - the pivoting head adds to the rounded form to create a friendly light that adds character to any space.
