Week 5 Colour and Identiry #OnePerDay19

Task: The task this week was to create a series of 5 abstract self-portraits and experiment with different colours and materials.
Materials: Pencil, watercolour and paper. Photoshop was used to create a crisp white background.
Image 1: Image 1 is probably my favourite out of the 5 the way the colour work together and create a lifelike portrait with an abstract twist. This is the one I spent the most time on and you can definitely tell when looking at all of them.
Image 2: This image I created was in a grey scale I wanted to see what shapes it would bring out and see if it would change the expression of the portrait. I used black and white-water colour to shade the image and then cut it up to create a segmented look.
Image 3: With this image I wanted to try something different and decided to flick the water colour across the portrait to create a speckled effect.
Image 4: This image did not show through properly when scanned as it was almost like a zebra pattern created which doesn’t come through in this image. I used a similar technique to image 1.
Image 5: Image 5 I tried to just change the background it didn’t turn out exactly how I thought it would because it was meant to really make the portrait pop but I feel like it doesn’t do what it was intended to.
Reflection: This week when I found out I had to work with colour as well as drawing a portrait it was a task that was very daunting to me as I do struggle to work with a lot of colour and portraits are not my strong point. Overall, I think I did alright for not being confident at all because I have never used water colour before it took a few times to produce something I was happy with.
