On the company premises of the manufacturer Heike, who at the time of the Second World War employed large numbers of Soviet forced laborers in Berlin for the production of equipment for food production and armaments, a cruel prison for dissidents was built after the war. It was run by the state security ("Stasi") of the former GDR, which perfected techniques even after the official ban on torture to break the will of the prisoners by solitary confinement and endless interrogation. In the basement there are dark damp cells, partly for several prisoners, in the upper floors there are single cells and countless interrogation rooms. Today, the site is a memorial with informative guided tours that can only be warmly recommended to anyone interested in recent German history.
