Design as Observation

All the items I chose for my collection are everyday things that most people come into contact with in daily life- but aren’t often looked at very closely. In choosing which items to photograph, I also decided to pick those that could tell pieces of a larger story.
I tried to take very close up and detailed pictures of each of the objects, in order to highlight little details that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. It was extremely interesting to be able to look at these normal, everyday objects in a new light. The led container, for instance- the small little details on the label, and how the gold sticker and plastic casing shined in the light. The succulent, also, looked totally different so up close- with little spots of dirt and rough edges.
Some of the objects I photographed also represented pieces of what could be larger stories. For example, the two pennies- one from 1964, and one from 2019. I liked the contrast they created next to each other, and the representation of all those years of history. The button, also, could mean something different to everyone- where it came from, how it broke off, how old it is.
