Client Project - Customisable fireproof Cell Furniture to maximise space and also prevent self-harming in prison.
Project Summary
From the inspiration of “Minimalist furniture” and “Small space living”. I designed “UP”. A storage system made with corrugated cardboard.
This is an idea of using up the dead space in the room and also to prevent self - harming in prison.
“UP” allows user to fill up the dead space in the room, and with the “Multi functional coat hanger”, they will be able to use up the dead space in the wardrobe as well. Therefore they maximise the limited space they have and also be able to organise stuffs in a better way.
To make it is very easy. Once the shape is cut out, users can just easily fold them into shape. It’s a 100% customisable and 100% Eco - Friendly product.

The sizes can also be easily adjusted before the manufacturing process, so that they can fit into most of space.

Mixing activated charcoal into corrugate cardboard might be able to absorb smells in the cell.
Further development for the wardrobe unit.
Replaced the hanging bar with a cardboard tube which is filled with activated charcoal insulation foam to make it stronger and also be able to absorb smells.

Here is a fire test with the cardboard.
Each of them were being lighted up for 1 minute (non-stop)

Below is fg.1 without Flame Retardant Treatments.
It burnt and keep on burning by it self after 1 minute.
Here is fg.2 with Flame Retardant Treatment (Flametect C)
It didn't light up after 1 minute. Very very little smoke was created during and after the test.
Depends on customers' needs and wants, "UP" can always made with other materials and other sizes by using the same method.
