In the late '90s when street teams were all the rage in L.A., I got the chance to co-create a localized marketing campaign for Nike. The teaser for our Back-to-School thru Spring Break marketing effort began with vibrant environmental graphics out-posted near local high schools and carrying the invitation to "Come out and play." Nike L.A. street teams hosted hoops contests in Venice Beach, events featuring DJs, graffiti artists and skateboarders, and our campaign culminated in a downtown celebration near the Staples Center when Kobe and Shaq led the Lakers to ring 2 of 3 in the 2001 NBA Championship. That's right, "Bling, Bling" baby.
