Graphic Design Practice 2 - Project Brief 1

This was a university assignment. The brief was to create a new logo for the existing San Francisco Film Festival (SFIFF) as well as produce a double sided A2 poster which would then fold down to an A5 size. I looked into typography from the 1950s and 60s in America to base the logo design around, in order to pay homage to the fact that it is the oldest running film festival in the Americas. I chose a font that reflected this time period and modernised it. I decided to utilize the I in the acronym to turn a square into a simplified film marker.
The concept behind the poster design is that of the moving image. I took several images of the Golden Gate bridge and distorted them by scanning them and then vectoring them to create a more graphic poster. When designing the poster layout, I was concious with placement so that when folded down, the poster would become a small booklet, with a front cover, showing the logo, a middle spread, containing the body text, and a back cover.
I like the end result and looks excellent printed and is great folded down as a brochure and as a poster.
