Ganesh Chaturti 2019

This is my most favorite festival. We have been hosting Ganpati at our house for many years now and these 5 days are best days of the entire year. I don't consider myself to be very religious but these 5 days really bring out a different side of me. For me, it all starts with the decorations.

This year I've been prepping for the decor 2-3 weeks in advance since I was able to work on it only on the weekends. We happened to be in Diaso, a shop in Dubai which can be compared to The dollar tree in US. There I found these paper flowers which you just had to open up. So I bought 2 packs of red, yellow, pink and blue each. At that time I really couldn't decide the color scheme so I just picked them all! I must have spent at least 7 days just opening up the flowers. Each packet cost around 7.50 DHS. So the total came up to 60 DHS.
Since I've been learning SketchUp, I made my initial plans there. The idea was to have the flowers hanging down from underneath the umbrella over the idol but in reality it didn't really work out. I fell short of flowers. I didn't have the time to go out and get more flowers so I just scrapped the idea.

This is where it gets really exciting.

My neighbor on the same night when we were assembling all this decided to throw away his cupboard door. They were large single closet doors with white laminate on them. It was perfect for a backdrop. I asked him if it was okay if i took it form him, he didn't mind.

The panex diamonds were of different sizes so once I had them sorted out I decided to go with the a star design and stick them to the edge of the backdrop to avoid the hard lines. I also took some of them and stuck it to the front of the MDF dais as well to keep the white color at the bottom as well. I feel so proud of myself for coming up with the idea treating it as tiles and layering just like you do for roof tiles. These pieces were really light so super glue was enough to stick it.

I really wanted the flowers to be the focal point of this entire build, hence I kept the whatever I could white just to make them pop.

So here is the crazy part! I was just gonna leave it at the flowers but then my sweet mother had the most intelligent idea to put these fairy lights that we have had for years at hand between the flowers. What's crazy is that they were the same colors as the flowers. So it blended in perfectly. Laid satin cloth on the flat surface since I was just out of time. Yet it all just turned of so perfectly with a bow on top!
For my beautiful mother!
