As a visual artist, sometimes I find myself questioning the whole “don’t judge a book by its cover” thing, often frowning upon the ones I have at home or even refusing to buy a new one if the cover doesn’t feel right to me. So I challenged myself to redesign one of my favourites, Aldous Huxley’s classics Brave New World. Illustrations are focused on caste system of genetically modified children, so called predestination – core of Huxley's dystopian society. As a base, I took a few pictures of a dismembered doll, adding some effects in postproduction while using specific colors that are significant to differentiate one caste from the other. Phrases that are used to describe each caste in the brainwashing process of hypnopaedia, created repetitive typography patterns that along with the grain noisy texture got me this strange, kind of disturbing retro look, that I was going for.
