Map created to sell as a print in the upcoming Japan Weekend in Madrid. Inspired by my favorite kpop group, Exo, I selected a few of their most iconic songs, albums and tours to name some imaginary landmarks on an imaginary city. To guide me on this journey, I bought Helen Cann's Hand drawn maps, a comprehensible guide about hand drawn cartography.
Just like when you're in Art School and have to learn the basics by doing Master studies, I decided to quickly sketch some maps I was inspired by. They're from Pau Morgan, Sarah Abbott and Clairice Gifford. They have been a huge inspiration in this project!
I used Medieval Fantasy City Generator to create a new city layout. I tweaked some of the options to generate it just how I wanted it. It's super intuitive and fun to use, I recommend it a lot!
After that it was just a matter of coming up with imaginary landmarks and iconic buildings and creating all the little illustrations for them. It was quite a pleasant process, since I used one of my previous works as inspiration.
Easter egg!! If you're from Madrid you might recognize a familiar building among the illustrations. Let me know in the comments if you know which one I'm talking about!
