THE DESIGN
The building at 18-22 Cardigan Street is proposed to develop a world class urban district and environment to support the next generation of Melbourne by providing a greater level of activities compared to the previous building. The site is located in are and literature precinct. The proposal of the design will include a mix of uses that representing art and literature. The proposed building amis is to accommodate international students who are having difficulties moving to an new country for the first time. Not only that it is located in the university site, it is also closed to the CBD, just 950 meters which only requires 12 minutes in walking. This will make students easier to adapt living in a new country alone. The proposal of the design will include a mix of uses that representing art and literature of some country, such as China, Indonesia, India, Brazil and Vietnam, which has the most international student in RMIT. There will be an art gallery that will show the culture of its country and mini cinema for the students that showing international films. By this accommodation, international students will learn more of the culture of other country as their stay in Melbourne. In the intersection of art and literature lane-ways will be a vibrant spot. Not only a cafe from this building, its corner of the other buildings that are facing this lane-way will give their space for people can enjoy. There will be a reading spot and a art gallery for people to look around.
