Font Design - Rice dumpling
Tangyuan, or “Yuanxiao”, is a ball-shaped food made from glutinous rice flour and eaten by families in a get-together every year during the Yuanxiao Festival in China, because of a homophone for “union” in Chinese. It’s my favorite dessert too; I’m very carried away by its multifarious fillings, so I made this typeface in combination with the shape of Tangyuan, hoping for viewers’ instant association with the food and their feeling of sweet happiness at the sight of it. That’s where roundedness comes into play, so for all the characters with a sealed frame, a circular shape is adopted as a substitute, and around modification is added to every Chinese character component, giving all characters in the type a relatively uniform and harmonious radian which evokes a very warm and sweet feeling in general.
