L'IRRÉALITÉ DU RÉEL

These are pictures.
Pictures captured by photography
and nothing but pictures.

If it is sometimes considered as a representation
of the world a picture is a story that doesn’t exist,
that is more like a legend, a myth,
but that we often decide to believe.

“Pictures are objects that we like to believe in,
but also not believe in”
Arnaud Claass

They are real.
They are fake.
They are both.

My pictures question reality
in its basic definition.
They put forward some of the codes
that help us define what’s real or not.

In this series of pictures a balance and confusion
is created between reality and set up.

Some of these pictures have been captured
in the street while wandering,
some are totaly fake,
created from scratch.

But, they all are fakely real.

As graphic designers we get to play with pictures quite a lot, and often blurring the line between what's real and what's not is an important part of the job. But, if we think about it, life itself is sometimes on the fence between reality and surrealism. Wondering about what reality could be I took different pictures. Some are genuine, some are fake, but they might all be real after all…
This editorial work was made to showcase this collection of photos called "L'irréalité du réel" (The unreality of reality).
